No. The cut-out model (U²-Net) and the AI runtime are served from Omnikit and run inside your browser tab, so your photo never leaves your device. The first run downloads the model once — after that your browser has it cached and the tool keeps working with no connection at all.
It uses u2netp, a small, fast model. On a clear subject — a person, a product, an object against a background that differs from it — the edges are clean. It is noticeably weaker on fine hair, fur, glass and low-contrast edges, where you may see a halo or a lost wisp. The Edge softness slider lets you trade a crisper cut against softer edges.
Transparency needs PNG, and PNG is lossless — so it is usually larger than the JPG you started with. If you chose a solid background colour and do not need transparency, run the result through Compress Image to get a much smaller JPG or WEBP.
